Fredrich Wyss Viola 16″

Fredrich Wyss Viola

Year: 2013

16″

Serial# 703

This viola was made in Ohlstadt, Germany for export to the US market.  The two-piece back is of finely grained maple, with medium to fine figuring. The pieces are book-matched with the figures forming straight lines across the back.  The ribs and scroll are similarly figured and match the back. The top is of fine to medium fine-grained spruce, with the grain running arrow straight.  The viola is modeled on a Stradivari, with the correct sound-holes and mould. The varnish is a medium burnt umber over a golden base. Antiquing consists of thinning of the varnish to simulate normal shoulder and hand hold wear on the back and on the top on the treble side upper bout. There are also some surface pits on the back and top that have been darkened with varnish to simulate dings and dents from normal use. These are subtle and add to the character of the instrument. The pegs and chinrest are medium rosewood, and the tailpiece is a Wittner with four integrated fine tuners.

For Los Angeles Violin Shop customer, we would confidently recommend this product for the advanced students or amateur player. This is great value for the money. The arching, and thickness are carved with exact measures and followed by Los Angeles Violin Shop’s specification.
