HISTORY

In the year 2002, a captivating violin journey commenced for Los Angeles Violin Shop’s esteemed founder, Owen Lee. His endeavor involved sourcing violins, violas, cellos, and basses from various corners of the world. In 2003, the Universal Musical Instrument Wholesale Company, known today as LAVS, was officially established. Through unwavering dedication and exceptional customer service, Owen forged strong relationships with renowned violin shop owners nationwide. In doing so, he discovered a pressing need for restoration services for instruments created by external craftsmen. Thus, in 2008, LAVS embarked on the path of learning violin restoration and making, offering these essential services to the vibrant musical community in Los Angeles.

In 2011, our accumulated expertise took tangible form as we established a violin workshop in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, introducing our workshop brand, “Owens & Parkley” instruments. A pivotal move took place in 2014, as we relocated to our present location at 3350 West Olympic Boulevard, and officially adopted the name Los Angeles Violin Shop, signifying our dedication to continuous expansion and growth.

Our unwavering pursuit of excellence led us to explore novel avenues for delivering the finest workmanship and resources to Los Angeles. In 2019, we proudly launched our inaugural annual event, Authenticate LA, joining forces with esteemed experts from France’s Vatelot-Rampal and Jean-François Raffin ateliers, including Jean-Jacques Rampal, Jonathan Marolle, Yannick Le Canu, and Sylvain Bigot. Together, we provide world-renowned certification and authentication services to our valued clientele in LA. Following its successful inception, the event returned in 2020, and we eagerly anticipate its continued presence in the years ahead.

Beyond our unwavering commitment to exceptional instrument making, restoration, and internationally acclaimed certification and authentication, we hold a deep-rooted sense of community. In 2020, we embarked on an exploration of new avenues to actively give back to our community and promote arts education in Los Angeles. This noble endeavor led to the establishment of the LAVS Foundation, aimed at serving and supporting aspiring musicians throughout the vibrant city of Los Angeles.
